If the administration was concerned with addressing tardiness, rather than making an example of tardy students, they would not replace the current system with a new system that actually increases lateness / time out of class.

The new policy simply enunciates that the current administration is not interested in a creative solution, but rather showy policies that make administrators look tough.

That's sad.

I wonder what the correlation between policies like this, which effectively infantilize students, and the dropout rate is? I would imagine there is a correlation. Shame on the administration for not investigating this first.

Doug,
Congrats on your retirement! Your article is great- I am impressed with MY cuz's footprint at AHS. You have accomplished much, and I wonder what you will do with all that time- hope that you mentored someone to take your place.
It'll be another year before I decide to re- tire. I think that i'll always be working on helping others to find peace in their lives.
Take care, and happy holidays to you'all. Hope to see you at a celebration within the year! Russ

Comparing the Occupy to the Civil Rights movement is absolutely silly. The context of the two events is completely different. I'm not saying Cain is right, but you should read up on your history before you make claims.

I saw Anonymous tonight and it was awesome! The acting was spot-on: funny at times, very moving at others. The set design and lighting were dynamic and engaging and just really cool to look at. I really loved all the sound effects and especially the live music. The production was highly professional and impressive and I was thoroughly entertained. Well done! PS:I will never think of sausages in the same way again.

Another comment... while the headline reads "Masses Criticize Obama’s Health Care Reform," that's little supported in the commentary; while we read that negative comments on it were cheered at a Republican debate, nowhere else is there a discussion of public opinion on the issue. Which is a bit akin to saying "Masses criticize eggs and bacon for breakfast," based on the reaction to an ill-considered menu plan at a conference of vegans.

You close the piece with the assertion that at least some of the elements in the legislation (again, law passed by Congress, certainly led by proposals from the Obama administration, but something that oughtn't be glibly labled as "Obamacare") ought to be seen as welcomed competition to the current sad state of American health care... lead with that: "Health Care Reform Attracts Criticism, but May Deliver Healthy Competition."
