XC BSAL Results in Frosh-Soph Championship

On November 5th, just a week after the Albany High Varsity Boy’s Cross-Country team won the BSAL dual-meet championship, they were back for more at Joaquin Miller Park. However, this time the Cougars were not able to win the BSAL league championship and maintain their perfect record. Instead, they settled for an exceptional second place behind league rival Saint Mary’s.

The Cougars managed to win a close race for second by a margin of eight points over Piedmont High. Chris Gioa came in first for Albany, and fifth overall, with a time of 19:29 on the 3-mile course. James Pickering, Connor Haight, and Nolan Tonkyn ran as a group and placed 9th, 10th, and 11th overall, respectively. Gioia, Pickering, Haight and Tonkyn all earned BSAL All-League recognition.

The Girl’s Varsity team earned third place with an All-League performance by Siobhan Bauer who finished 14th, and Brisa Bodell who came two spots afterward. The other three runners for Albany also ran as a trio and came in 19th, 20th, and 21st.

The Boy’s Frosh-Sophomore team took the championship with ease, blowing past the other two schools by about 40 points. Out of 34 runners, the first three to finish the two-mile course were from Albany. All of Albany’s Frosh-Soph boys placed in the top 17.

Thirteen of Albany High’s varsity runners will continue to practice over the next two weeks, leading up to the North Coast Section tournament on November 21st.
