Lead by strong performances from everyone involved, the Albany Varsity Boys Cross-Country Team dominated Piedmont and Salesian on the road to the BSAL dual-meet championship. On October 27 at Joaquin Miller Park, the varsity boys maintained its unblemished record with a 25-33 win that pushed their record to 7-0.
Senior James Pickering, sophomore Nolan Tonkyn, and senior Connor Haight all ran terrific races, finishing top three for the Cougars. Team captain junior Ryan Masterson showed great leadership by shouting out commands to his teammates and keeping them going when the pressure was on.
The girls varsity team also performed admirably, going up against a powerful Piedmont team. With Salesian not fielding a team, the Cougars’ goal was just to finish the race and get a good feel of the course, where they’ll be racing again next week for the league championships.
Junior Brisa Bodell ran with the 4th and 5th Piedmont girls for most of the race and almost caught up with them at the end. Freshman Molly Greene performed like she’d been there a million times, looking calm and collected on one of the toughest courses in the area.
The JV teams each finished with records of 6-1 in the dual meet season. The BSAL league championships are Thursday, November 5 at Joaquin Miller Park.
