The 2011- 2012 womens tennis team got off to a great start on September 6th, as they defeated St. Patrick St Vincent six to one.
At the recent Freedom High Tennis Invitational, junior April Ngo finished second in the singles winners bracket, while juniors Cathy Qui and Maya Delaney finished second in the consolation doubles. These results hint at good things to come from the Lady Cougars.
However, just winning one match isn’t the overall goal for the players and the team. April Ngo, the two- time defending BSAL champion explained this year’s tennis goal: “To win the league!”
That seems to be the general consensus around the team as senior Rita Phang, (number one doubles with senior Melody Sit) said, “The team expects to try our best and make it as a team to BSALs”
Sue Ford, veteran tennis coach, has expectations that mirror those of her players.
However, Ford has to deal with one of the toughest parts of being a high school coach coach: graduation.
“After losing seven seniors, my expectations for this season were good, but perhaps rebuilding,” Ford said.
However, after seeing this year’s team, and those who tried out, Ford added, “the turn out for try outs was great, and now our expectations are high.”
To set a specific mark for her team, coach Ford expects to “repeat our second place finish in league.”
