Albany Junior Varsity fans went wild as the Cougars trounced El Cerrito with a 5-0 outcome on Saturday, January 24th.
Every member of the team contributed to the win. The team’s momentum started quickly with goals from freshman Katie Fadelli and freshman Lily Endo in the first half, placing Albany ahead 2-0. The team’s offense continued to hold its own with three more goals from Fadelli, freshman Diedre Theis and freshman Hanna McPheron in the second half.
The defense also came out just as strong with important blocks from junior Hannah Guletz and several spectacular saves from freshman goalie Siobhan Bower.
The game was no surprise to these aspiring Cougar athletes as it adds to their already 3-0-1 record. “We have a really strong team this year. Even though we haven’t had a lot of games we have practiced a lot,” Guletz commented.
These Cougar athletes take on Piedmont rivals Wednesday January 28th (away). Come out and support them as they play Salesian on Friday, January 30th at Cougar Field.

You guys will write about JV Girls Soccer, BUT NO WRESTLING!?!?!
You’re telling me that you would rather write about JUNIOR VARSITY GIRLS SOCCER (this is America, we don’t DO soccer) over writing about the best team our school has.
I don’t know if this is the kind of world I want to live in.
i agree with you in that JV soccer is not worth writing about… however, NOBODY cares about wrestling. if curling was our best sport and we won NCS every year still nobody would care. all wrestling is is a bunch of overly hormonal guys rolling around on the floor with other overly hormonal guys. it’s gross!! and all of you are not exactly what we girls call cute!
Obviously you have never wrestled or seen a match, because it is so much more than that. By far, wrestlers are the best overall athletes in the school. Wrestling requires speed, strength, agility, good reaction time, integrity, intelligence, and a whole lot of condition and endurance. And to call two people competing against one another to see who is the more dominant boring… well you madame are seriously mistaken. It is the ultimate sport because there is nobody to rely on for victory but yourself. It’s just one-on-one sophisticated warfare.
If it was as exciting as you seem to think it is, more people would watch it not only at the high school level but also beyond. The most popular form of wrestling is watched by chiefly trailer trash because they find it amusing to watch people hit each other with chairs. I’m willing to bet more people attend some INDIVIDUAL games of soccer than attend a wrestling match all year.
You just compared intense self-discipline and conditioning with an event where ‘roided freaks have staged “matches”. FOR SHAME.
