After completing a good portion of Bay Shore Athletic League and coming off of the Tri Valley Invitational Tournament championship, the Lady Cougars have once again proved dominant, beating rival St. Mary’s in the process 1-0.
“Again, it’s a full team effort,” commented junior Simone Hickman with regard to the team’s success.
With a weak league other than St. Mary’s and Piedmont, the Cougars have scared off all other opponents of recent, requiring reschedules for matches with Salesian and Piedmont, and cancellations from St. Patrick/St. Vincent and Holy Names. A game once postponed against John Swett was played Wednesday, the Cougars molly-whopping the Indians 7-0.
But how is the long layoff affecting the team’s morale and preparation for important North Coast Section games looming in the near future?
“Coach has been working us hard, making sure we stay ready for any situation,” freshman Jo Kirkby said, “we’re gonna be peaking just at the right time.”
Upcoming games include St. Joseph Notre Dame on Friday (Jan. 14 and a rematch at Kennedy next Wednesday (Jan. 19).
