With victories this week over Encinal and St. Mary’s the Albany varsity volleyball maintained its unblemished BSAL season, extending its record to 10-0.
Each match this week was settled quickly, with match scores of 3-0. Albany was really only pushed against St. Mary’s when coach Roger Worsley inserted some younger players in to the third game to give them some additional match experience.
The St. Mary’s match was the first Breast Cancer Awareness event, where the players wore their pink jerseys and funds were raised among the fans to support breast cancer research.
This week the team travels to Piedmont on Tuesday and hosts St. Patrick’s – St. Vincent’s on Thursday. The Cougars will be participating in the NORCAL tournament this Saturday as well.
Everything points to an important rematch with Salesian at home on October 25. In their last meeting, the Cougars prevailed in a hard-fought five-game match.
