Volleyball Season Preview

The 2010 Albany High School Girls Volleyball team is poised to dominate. The team that went 30-6 and finished in the NCS semifinals last year is back with even more power, not to mention height.

“A lot better,” senior Sita Wong, this year’s libero, replied after being asked about the talent of the team. “The team is taller and more focused,” Wong continued.

This year’s roster bumps up the average height with five girls over six feet, which is very rare in volleyball.

The other new addition to the team is the coach, Roger Worsley. His 25 years of experience coaching college volleyball has brought a strict and confident mentality to the team.

“He is almost a little too strict,” Wong said. “However, his strict attitude does help.”

The Lady Cougars hope to go deeper in the NCS playoffs then they did last year. Their current goal is to make it to state, but don’t think they are overlooking BSAL and NCS.

Returning Starters: senior Sita Wong, junior McKenzie Giblin, sophomores Marin Gibson and Kyra Holt.

Circle the Calendar: September 16, vs. Piedmont; October 18 vs. Salesian; September 23, vs. St. Mary’s.
