Hey guys, I’m writing this as I pass the Vacaville auto mall on way home from Northstar. I’ve been taking the ski bus since freshman year, and I’ve never been disappointed. With the slow death of the Shredders Club, there are many snowboarders and skiers at Albany high who’re looking for ways to hit the slopes.
Ski season is in full swing and as an avid snowboarder, I know how hard it is to get up to the slopes from the Bay Area. The Bay Area Ski Bus is an affordable and efficient way to shred the nar on any given weekend.
I’m going to do my best at writing this without seeming like an advertisement, but I honestly haven’t encountered a better program in my four shred-tacular years of high school. My favorite aspect of the ski bus is their customer service. From the bus driver who greets you at 5:15 a.m., to the hostess who let’s you vote on movies for the back, the ski bus has you covered.
Your ride up to the mountains will be a silent sleep-induced dream, with dimmed lights and reclining chairs. Just as the first shy drops of snow begin to litter the ground, you’ll be politely woken up for a complimentary breakfast and a resort map of your destination.
As we all know, there’s nothing better than a snack and a warm cup of hot chocolate after a rigorous day of snow destruction; fortunately, you will find all that and more waiting for you at the front of the bus upon your return. The bus will then depart on the journey back home, with a brief 30-minute dinner stop halfway through the trip. The average time of return is usually around 8:30-9:00 p.m.
Whether your chosen resort is Heavenly, Northstar, Sugerbowl, or Kirkwood, the ski bus always arrives within an hour of the opening of the lifts. The idea behind the ski bus is to get you there right when the lifts open, and leave when they close. By the time I arrived at Northstar this morning the lifts had been open for 30 minutes and the bus left half an hour after the lifts had closed. By maximizing your time on the slopes, the Ski Bus is by far the best option for Bay Area skiers and boarders; not to mention the $105, all expenses paid, price tag. The only thing that needs to be paid for is lunch and dinner.
For all the snowboarders and skiers who feel under-represented at Albany High, the Ski Bus is a great way to connect with other shredders in the Bay Area. It’s cheap, quick, and full of friendly staff that know how to take care of you. I recommend the bus to anyone willing to devote their day to the call of the mountain.
