Strawbridge Offers Challenge – Bankson Responds

At last week’s broadcast of the Albany Cougars varsity volleyball game against Salesian High School, Albany Athletic Director Andrew Strawbridge made a stunning proclamation:

“I’d like to publicly challenge Mr. Bankson to a one-on-one wrestling match…at the upcoming Winter Sports Rally in front of the whole school.”

This challenge is another bold move by Strawbridge, who began serving as AD in July.

Bankson was not impressed by Strawbridge’s challenge.

“If he does show up he’s gonna need a second person with him to take him to the hospital.”

Bankson, who will again turn 86 in three months, has been the wrestling coach at AHS for more than 40 years.

When told that Strawbridge said, “I’ll take him to school…if the home will let him out that late,” Bankson made a bold reply.

“If this thing happens the earthquakes that happened are chump change…we’re talking about an 8.4. The hammer is coming down.”

The match has not yet been confirmed by both sides’ respective agents, but should happen at the Winter Rally on Friday, January 27.

Bankson left one final comment:

“Only the good die young.”
