After coming back to defeat Bishop O’Dowd in a 2009 North Coast Section finals rematch, the Albany Cougars softball team was fired up entering their second playoff game of the season.
Their opponent, Terra Linda High School, entered the game as the six seed with a 17-9 record and some momentum after upsetting Tamalpais High School.
Terra Linda used this momentum early to score six runs off of freshman starter Nicole Nordahl and hold off the cougars bases loaded threat to end the first inning. Terra Linda then added another run in the second and two in the fourth to bump the score up to 9-0.
In the bottom of the fourth the cougars loaded the bases once more and capitalized with a run on a dropped fly ball.
That was the last run to be scored in the game as both teams pitched, finishing off the game 9-1.
The Cougars ended their season at 20-4-1 finishing second in league. Next year the team will be without seniors Megan Tokunaga, Ellie Arkin and Allie Presher, but will be returning both of the Nordahl sisters, who will be a interesting pitcher-catcher combination for next season’s NCS run.
