The 2011 Homecoming powderpuff finals was a hard fought match featuring the two upper classes, juniors and seniors, in the AHS gym.
The game began with a second down strike to senior Hannah Tang from quarterback Alice Timken. This play set up the first senior score of the day on a touchdown pass to Mari Pastor, one of her two in the game.
After the score, quarterback Whitney Tamaki led the juniors onto the field hoping to respond with a touchdown. This took the team four plays, capped off with a touchdown run by Danielle Aquino.
Answering back, the seniors took to the air on their following drive as Timken found Maddie Kirkby in the endzone for a 14-7 lead.
Following the senior’s touchdown, the juniors were unable to continue the scoring trend when Simone Hickman stopped a fourth down run attempt, giving the possession back to the seniors.
The third drive of the seniors consisted of Hail Marys to the endzone to score before the half. Their prayers were answered once again as Timken hit Pastor in the endzone for her second touchdown.
At the start of the 2nd half, the juniors caught a break as a pass by Tamaki was deflected off of two junior receivers, and bounced harmlessly onto the court, narrowly avoiding an interception by the seniors. The juniors were granted a second third down as the seniors were flagged for pass interference. That set up a pass into the endzone that was dropped by the wide open receiver.
The senior’s fourth offensive possession was stalled as a penalty offset a first down. On their second attempt at fourth down, following a penalty that set them back a few yards, the seniors elected to go for the first, but were stuffed by safety Kyra Holt, before the first down mark.
The final drive of the game was a shocker as Tamaki split the defense for a field length quarterback sneak that resulted in a touchdown. Juniors decided to go for a two point conversion to close the deficit. Before the play started, the wild seniors crowd was penalized for “swearing” by referee Scott Shevelson. This placed the juniors along the goal line, however they failed to convert, leaving the final score at 21-13 favoring the seniors.
