An innocent playground game turns into a wacky and disturbing adventure filled with backstabbing, battles, and very naughty words. Albany High School Theater Ensemble presents Pretend-O-Cide, a world premiere adaptation of Alfred Jarry’s 1892 Ubu the King.
The story that follows a nasty little man named Ubu with a domineering wife who helps him murder the king, seize the throne, and become a dictator more ruthless—and ridiculous—than the world has ever seen. Pretend-O-Cide adds a whole new twist to a classic plot, setting the action on a playground with a group of children becoming more and more involved in their game.
The play opens this Thursday, November 2 at 7:00 pm and closes Saturday November 11 at 8:00 pm. Showtimes are 7:00 pm Thursdays and 8:00 pm Fridays and Saturdays.
About Theater Ensemble: Albany High School’s Theater Ensemble is a student-run theater group, which collaborates with a professional director every fall. With Theater Ensemble advisor Sarah Samonsky, students decide which plays they want to perform and who should direct it.
