Pep Band is back!

Senior Steven Lee hollers The AHS Basketball Pep Band is back this year after its hugely successful creation during last year’s basketball season.

However, the leaders of last year’s band, who were a big part the success, have all graduated. The band was saved by Steven Lee and Nina Lincoff, who stepped in to get it organized.

They are already underway, and they will be playing at the Boys Varsity Home games. They will also go to few crucial Girls Varsity games, and to the Saint Mary’s away game.

Lee said, “The team plays the physical part of the game, we play the psychological. We get inside the minds of the other teams players and give our team a boost in morale.”

One of the interesting things about the band is how selective it is. The letters of invitation were sent quietly, and in secret code. Some compared their process to the DaVinci Code.

Junior Kyle Shipley said, on receiving the letter, “What the heck does all this mean?”

But apparently enough members understood, because the band has about 20 players now. The band has its players, its music, and its spirit, and is all ready to cheer the basketball team on to another great season.

The outlook? Nina Lincoff said that she expects that, “it’s going to be wonderful year.”

The Varsity basketball team is currently doing very well, currently at a 9-0 record, and the stands are full of fans. Could the pep band be part of it?

One of our school’s coaches, Dax Kajiwara thinks the addition of the band is great. Kajiwara said that the band “helps the morale of the team, and distracts the other team from concentrating on the game.” He said, “I love it when they are there.”
