That the follow up comments were removed. Yet this obvious piece of sexist, misogynist, piece of "writing" is allowed to stay up. "Mac Zilber" clearly does not understand that a high school newspaper is supposed to serve the entire student body, not just the male, heterosexuals.

Title IX is about funding and participation, not coverage. The jist of it is: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." The reason that only 1/12 articles is about womens' teams is because, frankly, people, on average, care less about women's teams. The Chicago Sky had 3700 people coming to their games on average in 2007, the Chicago Bulls, with an equivalent winning percentage, have about 21,000 people attending on average. Due to the fact that men do have more muscle mass and fast-twitch muscles on average, and the fact that sports are, right now, more prominent in male culture, men, on average, play better than their female counterparts do at sports. Of course there will always be exceptions, but when a 33 year-old Karsten Braasch, who was ranked #203 among men, could dominate Serena and Venus Williams when they were in their primes, it suggests that women's sports has a little ways to go before it can be considered close enough to men's sports that it would warrant equal media coverage.

Interesting that in the sports section of the Cougar out of the 12 articles listed only one is about women's teams.
