After successful regular seasons, the Cougars soccer teams look to continue momentum into postseason.
Coming off of a third straight Bay Shore Athletic League title for the mens team, the Cougars earned a seven seed for the Division IIA North Coast Section Championship tournament that begins tonight. The womens team has earned a three seed.
The men have faced adversity this season. With off-the-field issues forcing several players off the team and changing coaches mid-season, the Cougars responded by going undefeated in league, including a 5-0 shellacking of rival Piedmont in the regular season finale last Friday.
The women underperformed during league play, tying their last three important matches against Piedmont, Encinal, and St. Mary’s. Though undefeated in league, the accumulated ties allowed St. Mary’s to leapfrog them in the division standings and take the league title. The women are playing with a chip on their shoulders despite a fine regular season that earned them the three seed.
Both first round games will be home matches today at Cougar Field. The men play the ten seed, Pinole Valley, at 3 P.M., with the girls following at 5 P.M. against BSAL opponent St. Joseph Notre Dame.
