On this particular day, the entire front window of the eatery (which takes up a good portion of the wall) was open to let in the sunshine. The removal of the “fourth wall” lets patrons people-watch while they eat, without actually sitting on the sidewalk. This creates an environment that is both open and intimate at the same time.
Setting and design of the establishment are major pros, but it’s the food itself that makes this restaurant the place to go. We sampled the thin-crust classic (which comes as a deep-dish pizza as well) and within instants it was gone. The problem with most pizza is that it is either too heavy on the cheese, or too heavy on the toppings. The chefs at Little Star have managed to create a perfectly balanced pizza. The crust was deceptively thin without being floppy. The cheese covered the entire crust, yet it didn’t overpower the taste or the texture. The veggies were perfectly cooked and maintained their crunch. Suffice to say, this is some delicious pizza.
Fans of Zachary’s, at the top of Solano, or Gioia on Hopkins Street may be critical of the new eatery, but they should definitely give it a shot. While Little Star Pizza may not sell by the slice like Gioia, the service is faster and less complicated, and the pizza is a little bit sturdier. The style of Little Star Pizza is more like that of Zachary’s than anything else, but we felt that the former was far more hospitable. The lines are shorter, the waiters are nicer, and when you sit down to eat your pizza, you don’t have to fight with other diners for elbow room.
Something that could be a concern to many is the price range. A small pizza (which consists of about eight slices) costs around fifteen dollars, tip not included. Little Star Pizza is definitely not a place for an afternoon snack unless you’re rolling in the Benjamins. If you plan on going to this magnificent wonderland, you might want to bring some friends to trick into paying more than you. However, in comparison, Little Star Pizza is about the same price as competing quality pizza parlors, but in our opinion, better.
Simply put, Little Star Pizza is delicious and is a must for any person who appreciates quality food.
