Leadership is doing more than just dances this year. They began the new school year with their standard activities, helping out with orientation and running the Hello Dance, but made sure not to neglect loftier goals for the student community.
Problems that the Leadership class, made up of Associated Student Body and the respective class councils, has identified include student apathy, staircase crowding, neglect of the daily bulletin, lack of student respect for custodians and other staff, and “bathroom issues” such as soap and toilet seat covers.
The “umbrella issue” for many of these problems is student apathy on many levels. Leadership wants to give students more ownership of their school and its associated activities, so that they will have more school spirit. They also hope to hold better student events.
Based on these issues, the group set some goals for the 2006-2007 school year. They plan to hold forums to discuss issues of local, national, or international importance. Homecoming is another touchy issue. Says Kevin Shea, ASB president, “We plan to drastically reform school spirit while keeping the fun of class competition.” Another important goal is that diversity be an ongoing issue, not confined to just one week in the spring. Leadership plans to both offer and participate in more organized community service, to focus on all sports, rather than just the traditional football, and to hold more engaging rallies. In addition, they hope to repeat the successful student – to -teacher feedback surveys that were conducted last year. And finally, the senior class has to get out of debt.
Above all, ASB and the class councils intend to fully represent the student body in its entirety, and one part of this solution involves making the House of Representativess a more active group.
“Our goals are to involve students more and do more charity/ social service activities,” concluded Tami Benau, who oversees the leadership class.

Hah, leadership at EC is the same thing. Every year (3 now) says they’ll do this, or says they’ll do that, but the problems neer go away. We say we’re going to work on something, and then the next year we’re still working on the same problem. You’ve gotta love the system.
damn, i know whatcha mean. leadership says that they’re gonna do stuff but they end up just counting prom king votes and other less-important stuff. we gotta tackel the issues.
