Since both the boys and girls varsity soccer teams have clinched the BSAL, soccer has been all the buzz around campus. Both boys and girls have strolled through the season undefeated.
The girls have by far been the most dominant team in the league, possibly in the section. Their record, 18-0-1, and number of goals that have been scored against them, 4, tell the story of their dominance. The only game they have tied was against Acalanes, which only came because the Cougars weren’t able to score against the tough Acalanes defense. Besides that one mishap, the girl’s soccer team has been utterly awesome. Lady Cougar junior midfielder Jessica Quinn described the season as, “Consistent and hardworking. We are excited for NCS and will work harder when the time comes.”
The boys have also responded with an insane season going 19-0-3 and coasting into NCS as a likely first seed. Their solid defense, only allowing 10 goals, and an astonishing offense, producing 88 goals, have made it a cakewalk for the Cougars. Their three ties were against Pinole, an undefeated Bishop O’Dowd and Saint Mary’s.
“My favorite part about this season was beating Saint Mary’s 6-0 on their field,” said Cougar senior defender Emerson Roberts-Donnelly. “Beating Piedmont was fun too, but pushing over Saint Mary’s kids never gets old.”
Both teams feel they are ready for NCS and must work hard in order to win. “Since our league is weak it’s going to be different playing against teams that are actually good,” said Roberts-Donnelly. “We still know that we will win it all though”.
Today, on senior night, the Lady Cougars are juggling the pressure of finishing with a zero in the loss column and will be shooting for a top seed in NCS. The boy’s senior night is Friday.
