With the rain pouring down outside, it was an especially gloomy Thursday for the underclassmen as the Senior Class of 2012 powder-puff team beat the 2014 sophomores 28-14. The senior victory sets up a showdown with the juniors next week.
But the sophomores didn’t go down without a fight as they scored a first half touchdown on a pass to Rachel Gill to partially counter a two-touchdown senior lead.
The first two senior scores came on a great catch by Maddie Kirkby and an impressive run into the end zone by Mari Pastor.
The seniors scored a third time when the sophomores could not grab Jillian Jenkins’s flags as she barged her way to another touchdown and a 21-7 lead at the beginning of the third quarter.
But the sophomores didn’t lose hope as Mallory Wolfe dashed into the end zone to make the score 21-14. But that would be the last the sophomores would score, though they came very close with a hail Mary throw to Amber Erhahon who leaped astonishingly high but couldn’t quite grasp the football and it dropped sadly to the floor.
In the fourth quarter the seniors scored a fourth touchdown to bump the lead to 28-14 as Kirkby caught quarterback Alice Timken’s well-thrown deep pass.
Pictures to follow.
