As the Lady Cougars softball team took the field in a crucial league match up vs. their cross-town rivals, the St. Mary’s Lady Panthers, tensions were running extremely high. The Cougars wanted to come out swinging, and they did just that. Led by seniors Joan and Laura Cannon, and a stellar pitching performance by senior Nicole Presher, the Cougars pummeled the Panthers 20-0.
After taking a 3-0 lead into the third inning, it seemed that this was going to be a very competitive contest. However, with two outs in the third, Joan Cannon started the onrush of runs with a single to left field. Two batters later, Laura hit a shot over the center fielder’s outstretched arm for a three-run homer. The inning progressed with the Cougars scoring two more runs to take an 8-0 lead into the fourth inning.
Suddenly, St. Mary’s motivation seemed diminished, and in the final two innings the Cougars scored 12 more runs, before the slaughter rule was put in effect. The Cougars, who currently have an 11-1 record, continue their extremely impressive season on Friday, April 4th, vs. St. Patrick’s-St. Vincent. Come out and support them as they march their way towards the NCS playoffs.

yeah
One of the most impressive wins against a St. Mary’s team in Albany HS sports history.
That’s ridiculous! Journalism should write some more about the Lady Cougars.
