The Albany High School girls volleyball team defeated Sir Francis Drake High School Saturday night in four close games (25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23) to take the North Coast Section Division III title.
Junior Kyra Holt and sophomore Amber Erhahon combined for nearly 30 kills to lead the 33-6 Cougars to the NCS championship.
Following their victory, Holt said, “It feels absolutely amazing because we haven’t done it for 11 years. I feel confident in my team winning state.”
Senior setter McKenzie Gilblin had 36 assists in the victory. Giblin and sophomore libero Brooke Tannahill each had 11 digs.
In her final year of high school volleyball, Giblin explained, “It feels amazing. It’s kind of hard to explain the feeling on how good it feels. Hopefully we get through Nor Cal State.”
“I feel juiced! We have a good chance of winning state,” concluded Junior Marin Gibson.
The Cougar’s season continues this week in the quarterfinal round of the Northern California bracket of the CIF State tournament against Christian Brothers on Tuesday, November 22, at Albany High School at 7:00 p.m.
