“Cave Poker” pushing new boundaries in fan participation

Since its inception last year, the Cougar Cave has been instrumental in establishing a student fan base for Albany sporting events. The famed student section is known for taking the initiative required to bring representation for Cougar sports. Recently, The Cave came up with a new way to get involved: Cave Poker.

No, Cave Poker is not a school-sponsored poker tournament prior to sporting events. Cave Poker is a Facebook application of sorts. You join the group, and before each game, a task is assigned to all members of the group; “poke” a designated opposing player on Facebook, endlessly. It is a genius form of heckling that is just a click away.

Says one of Cave Poker’s creators Robb Silverstein, “We want to psyche out opposing players during game week.”

Cave Poker is an easy and fun way to get involved in school spirit. Just join the Facebook group titled “Cave Poker” and check daily to find out who the officers have assigned as their next victim.

The upcoming event is Albany’s basketball game against defending league champs Salesian on Friday, January 11 at 7.
