As of the end of Friday, October 23, 2009: students have donated 774 cans/packages of food for Albany High’s homecoming canned food drive.
The filled barrels of donations will be delivered to the Alameda County Community Food Bank, where their contents will be sorted and distributed to 300 food bank partner agencies – including food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, residential programs, day care/after school programs, and senior centers. The agencies will then continue to distribute to people in need: people living with life threatening illnesses, survivors of abuse, and working poor families.
Canned food contributions by class are as follows – freshmen: 16 cans, sophomore: 68 cans, junior: 267 cans, senior: 423 cans. 12 unidentified cans were found in a barrel in the middle of the first floor hallway.
Cans were collected at homecoming events for two class spirit points. Each student who brought in thirty cans or more received a $5.00 discount off either the homecoming or winter ball dance ticket.
