On Thursday, October 18, the Albany High Cross Country Team will face Alameda, Encinal, and Kennedy at Saint Mary’s for their fourth BSAL league meet of the season.
The Cougars, with junior varsity boys and varsity boys and girls all undefeated so far, hope to continue their success, especially against cross-town rival St. Mary’s.
Last Thursday, the Cougars beat Salesian and St. Patrick’s/St. Vincent’s, at Pt. Pinole Regional Park in what was, according to Varsity runner Brian Shea, “pretty much the biggest sweep ever.” The team not only won this meet, but took at least seven out of the top ten places in every race (with the exception of Junior Varsity Girls, in which Albany entered no runners).
The meet was started with a 2.1 mile, Junior Varsity Boys and Girls combined race, in which the Albany boys thoroughly swept the opposition, earning a perfect score of 15. James Lincoff from Albany came in first, followed closely by teammates Miguel Mejia (2), Kevin Quirolo (3), Corwin Shiu (4), Brian Urban (5), Kevin Ma (7), Patrick Lee (8), and Tim Clopp (10).
The Varsity Boys Race came next, and again Albany dominated. Will Mullaney led the pack, coming in first on the three mile course. Soon finished after came teammates Brian Shea (2), James Pickering (3), Nick McIntyre (5), Jack Wallace (6), Aiden Bean (7), Ian Allen (8), Chris Gioia (9), and Jake Phillips (10).
The last race of the day was the Varsity Girls, run on the same three mile course. The Varsity Girls, although few in number, finished first and scored low (the lowest score wins in XC), with all seven runners finishing in the top ten. Jessica Quinn came in first, followed by sister Jackie Quinn (3). Natalie Buck-Bauer (4), Asia Kwan (5), Nina Lincoff (7), Amanda Wilmsen (8), and Brisa Bodell (9) completed the squad.
