On Monday October 1st, Albany volleyball visited Salesian in a match up of two undefeated BSAL teams. The game was one-sided from the beginning. Albany took all three games and now stands alone in first place.
Going into the game, there was talk that Salesian would provide a huge challenge for Albany. Both teams have beaten St. Mary’s and have impressive records. However, Albany showed domination early. Senior Jana Poole had kill after kill and other stars include senior outside hitter Nicky Hagan and junior setter Kaitlyn Giblin.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 18-2 and increase their winning streak to seven games in a row. They also won the Cougar challenge, a tournament hosted by Albany High, on September 29th.
At this point in the season, some questions still remain: Will this be the season Albany finally beats St. Mary’s in the playoffs? Will Albany get out of the first round in NCS?
Obviously we don’t know the answers yet, but one thing for sure, the Albany volleyball team is off to a great start.
On Wednesday October 3rd, the Cougars will travel to Vallejo to take on St. Pats. This is a big game, because St. Pats beat the Cougars in Vallejo last year. St. Pats has played well as of late, having won four of their last five games.
