Albany students celebrate Spice Girls’ return

The return of the Spice Girls has been a smashing success all over the world. The group of five (Ginger, Baby, Sporty, Scary and Posh), who have not performed together since 2001, recently visited the Bay Area on December 4th when they performed at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

The Spice Girls opened the night with one of their most successful songs Spice Up Your Life. Their play list consisted of all songs from the past, which stirred up many memories for the people in the audience.

To be certain, the audience consisted mostly of teens who had grown up listening to the music.

The tickets, which were hard to come by, ended up in the hands of a few Albany High School students. Most of these lucky Albany students raved about the concert. “I was the only one sporting the quintessential Spice Girls platform shoes,” said senior Nina Lewis. “Overall I thought that the whole experience was pretty nostalgic.”

However, not everyone was as enthused about the Spice Girls’ performance. “Honestly, I would’ve gotten a similar effect blasting the Spice World CD at full volume in an empty room,” said senior Madeline Miller Bottome.

The Spice Girls tour will continue into the beginning months of 2008. They will have their last performance on February 26th, 2008 and are expected to make approximately $20 million each by that time.

While many fans are wondering whether the Spice Girls’ desire to reunite for a last tour was motivated by money, an Albany High student who attended the concert and wishes to remain anonymous said, “I don’t really care if they are doing the tour in order to make money. The concert was extremely exciting and I would give up my left arm to see them again.”
