Albany Discusses the Budget

Although students, parents, teachers and the community at large are discussing the $2.2 million budget cuts Albany schools are facing, the ultimate decision regarding cuts will be made by the School Board.

A series of special and regular board meetings will be held in February to address budget matters.

-February 10th 5 pm Cornell Elementary
-February 23rd 5:30 pm Cornell Elementary
-February 24th &:30 pm regular scheduled meeting (Albany Community Center)

The public is encouraged to attend these crucial discussions.

At the meetings, superintendent Marla Stephenson will present the Board with information, including input from the school sites. Then the Board will ask questions, make comments, and direct staff on what actions they think are necessary.

School Board president, Jamie Calloway said, “I think the first meeting is very important to attend. We’ll be discussing layoffs, which is hugely important given the impact layoffs have on everyone — teachers, parents, students and staff alike.”
